Exceptional German Grammer The German sentence pattern Der/Die/Das + sonst/ansonsten/normalerweise/eigentlich + (so/sehr) + adjective + noun is used when you want to say that something or someone is normally/usually one way, but today/right now/in this case it is different (a contrast).
